Review - Waterford Elementary - 2nd Grade

Our second grade class is located in a rural setting within 20 minutes of a larger city. It consists of 21 students including 11 girls and 10 boys. This class has 3 students that have been retained in prior years, 2 students identified as needing learning support and speech and language services, 1 student who is hearing impaired, 2 students identified with ADHD, 1 student identified with selective mutism, 2 enrichment students and 1 gifted student.

The students were given the AIMSWeb Benchmark #1 Math Computation assessment (addition and subtraction) prior to using the UberSmart software and the AIMSWeb Benchmark #2 Math Computation assessment after using the program for about eight weeks. The assessment has a two minute time limit and scores are achieved by digits correct. Math instruction was continued as usual during this period.

This was our first year using this math software and we found we really liked the program. Even with the wide diversity in abilities throughout our class, this software allowed us to reach all learners. The students took ownership of the program and would request to start our class rotation immediately every morning. (We have two computers which the students would take turns using until all had a chance to master their next level.)

There was never a complaint, as all students were eager to take their turn. The students were thoroughly engaged and were able to have targeted differentiated instruction to meet their needs. Compared to other software we tried, it was a much more convenient and quicker way to give the students the practice they needed without taking away any of their other educational time. All students have shown increases in their computation fluency due to both instruction and use of the software.

After using this program for the first time, we would be interested in having more information or guidelines for use, either in the form of a manual or instructions found within the software. The students were trying each level until it would say "mastered" before moving on to the next level. We were unaware of how to practice with the flashcards or what criteria they needed to meet in order to "master" a level. We're still not sure how many tries it takes beating the timer in order to be considered "mastered."

We would love the opportunity to continue with this program, make small changes in what the students complete daily, and see what growth could be added by the end of the year. We would also be very interested in continuing use of this software in the years to come. UberSmart Math Facts has our recommendation!

UberSmarts Math Facts is a very effective learning tool. In our homeschooling, we use it alot! My kiddos love the challenge and the visible results of their progress.

I love to see their faces when they "master" a particular set of math facts. Their confidence soars!

Connecticut public schools have embraced the Common Core math standards which eschew traditional math procedures in favor of conceptual explanations. This means that children are encouraged to draw pictures of math "sentences" rather than actually memorize them as facts, thereby robbing them of the computational fluency needed for higher math. UberSmart software is the ONLY reason my son knows his math facts and will be ready for Algebra in spite of his public school education. Highly recommend.

I purchased the flash card software for my daughter when she was in 4th grade. She practiced every night for ten minutes and within a couple of months she was one of the 'experts' in her class during math games. I only wish I had bought it a couple years earlier!

I loaded the math software on my children's computer and within a short time they had discovered it and voluntarily began using it! They love trying to "master" each number set... even my 3 year old asks to do computer math almost every day :-)

UberSmart is the perfect warm up before a math lesson. After a round of UberSmart we are able to get right into the math without waiting for "clearing of the brain fog" that my kids seem to have at the beginning of most math lessons. This makes my time much more productive and effective. The kids get better grades when they do UberSmart first. We love UberSmart Math Facts!
